When it comes to content, we like to think that Spotify offers something for everyone—and that includes control. Since Spotify is all about delivering the music you want, we built in a quick and easy setting that helps you filter out songs that might not be appropriate for everyone in your house or car to hear. All it takes is one click on Spotify’s Explicit Content Filter.

All music, including those that are tagged “explicit,” is available to stream on Spotify by default. To change that, you simply have to toggle one specific setting. Here’s how:
On mobile device or tablet
Spotify introduced apps to their desktop applications in December 2011. Since then, a ton of apps have found their place on the platform. A lot of them are actually quite cool. You can use last.fm to find similar artists, Pitchfork to get album reviews, Tunewiki for lyrics, and more. Head over to the App Finder to check some of them out. In the Spotify iPhone app. Behind The Lyrics: The Complete Experience is a Spotify playlist and one-stop-shop to all existing Fact Tracks with new songs being added each week!
- Tap the “Home” icon.
- Go to “Settings” by tapping the gear in the upper right corner
- Scroll down to “Allow Explicit Content” toggle
- Turn the toggle off (gray).
On desktop
- Click the down arrow in the upper right, and select “Settings.”
- Under “Explicit Content,” turn off the toggle next to “Allow playback of explicit-rated content.”
If you ever want to go back to unfiltered listening, simply return to “Settings” and turn the toggle back on (from gray to green). And if you subscribe to the Premium Family plan, it’s simple to block explicit content for another user on your account. To do that, follow these steps:
- Go to your “Family Hub.”
- Select “Premium Family” in the menu on the left.
- Click on the member for whom you’d like to block explicit content.
- Turn the “Explicit Content” toggle off.
Regardless of how the toggle is set, you can often find “clean” versions of songs originally recorded with explicit lyrics. Enter the title of the song into the search bar on Spotify, either on your mobile device or on your computer, then choose the version of the song not marked as explicit. If there’s an ‘E’ next to the song, it means it’s explicit.
Of course, new music appears on Spotify all the time. So if you discover a track that hasn’t been correctly tagged, you can now report it through the “Report Explicit Content” option in the track’s menu. Simply tap or click the three dots to the right of the song title (the “context menu”), and scroll down to report the track. For more information, visit our support page on managing Explicit Content.
Toggle the Explicit Content filter, then check out the Today’s Top Hitsplaylist. Only the tracks suitable for all ears will play, with the explicit songs grayed out.
Spotify, the world of endless music, is my current favorite toy. We have already seen how we can use Spotify custom radio stations to discover new music and enable the Last.fm scrobbler. Today we will see something very interesting and that’s how to get auto-scrolling lyrics of songs that you are playing.
The lyrics feature is not built into Spotify and thus we will have to use a third party app named TuneWiki to integrate the feature. So let’s see how we can install the application and use it on Spotify.
Installing TuneWiki in Spotify
To install the TuneWiki app in Spotify, open Spotify on your desktop and click on the link App Finder under Apps in the left sidebar. TuneWiki is one of the best rated apps on Spotify and you will see it at the top of the list. Simply click on the Add button next to the TuneWiki app to add it to your Spotify account.
That’s all, the work’s done. From now on, whenever you want to see the lyrics of a song that’s playing on Spotify and sing along, click on the TuneWiki app that’s been added in the app section. TuneWiki will automatically analyze the song and display the lyrics to you. Moreover, as the song is playing, the lyrics will auto-scroll and automatically highlight the current line.
So that was how you can view the lyrics of the song that you are playing on Spotify. However, that’s not all. You can also contribute to TuneWiki.
Editing Lyrics
If you see that the lyrics of a particular song is out of sync, you can edit it for the good of others. Syncing the song is a very simple task with TuneWiki, you just need to press the next button while the song is playing to sync each line of the lyrics.
If you see that a song is missing its lyrics you can go ahead and add the lyrics. Search for the lyrics of the song on Google, paste it on TuneWiki and sync it. I admit that this might take some time, but if someone would have not worked for the lyrics of your favorite song, you would not be getting it synced in the first place. It’s all about the community you know.
Share The Lyrics you Love
You can also share a section of the lyrics you love on Facebook in the form of photos with custom backdrops. Click on the link Get Creative in TuneWiki app and customize the portrait. Later when you are done, you can share the song on Facebook, Pinterest and Tumblr.
Note: You will be needing TuneWiki account to edit lyrics but you can create it in the app itself. Conclusion
So that was how you can view lyrics in Spotify and sing along with your favorite artists. If you love Spotify, don’t forget to subscribe to our updates. It’s a matter of time I stumble upon another cool feature and share it with our readers.
